Top 100 Football Shirts of 2019 - Part 2: 90-81

The best football shirts of 2019
I want to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who critiqued, reacted to and engaged with Part 1 of Top 100 Shirts!
The response was overwhelming, and even though there’s a long way (literally weeks) to go, this series has already surpassed our expectations.
But anyway, enough soppiness. You’re dying to know what the 83rd best shirt of 2019 is, right?
Whilst you’re here, a brief reminder that you’re reading this on FOOTY.COM, quite simply the best place to come if you want to compare prices on football shirts. I’m buying kit all the time, and I always make sure to check FOOTY.COM to make sure I can’t get a better deal.

90 - Gremio Home
Umbro have released some absolute beauties this year and this Gremio shirt is definitely one of my favourites.
The shirt just oozes class. The blue, black and white look great and the white cuffs and collar compliment the shirt perfectly. The sponsor also works really well without dominating. I also love the bigger-than-usual, gold Umbro logo.
Everything about the shirt works well to create a really smart-looking shirt.

89 - Charleroi Away
Long live the abstract bus seat. The intricate criss-cross pattern is nothing short of outstanding, resembling an obscure game of Tetris doused in various shades of blue. The injection of pink is what really catches the eye, however, breathing fresh life into the collar, cuffs and the graphic itself.
Basically, this is an underrated stunner.
- Ben
Just popping in to say I love shirts that looks like bus seats, and this shirt looks like a bus seat.

88 - Schalke Away
Schalke have a rich recent history of white away shirts, and this is no exception. Much like it's previous counterparts, this shirt features no outlandish design, but simply a sleek and elegant overall aesthetic. The all-navy accents are complimented by a simple slick of green on the sleeves - a nod to the flag of Gelsenkirchen, the coal-mining city from which Schalke originate.

87 - Brazil Cup
For the whateverth anniversary of blah blah, the almighty Swoosh decided it would be a good idea to resurrect the white and blue outfit last worn when Brazil lost the World Cup they hosted in 1950, in what the football historians have called the "Maracanazo". It does look very good, though, even down to the white/royal/navy ensemble. It even has a collar, look!"

86 - Newport County Home
I guess this list was always gonna feature at least one shirt from Paddy Power’s infamous “Save Our Shirt” campaign. To be fair, though, Newport County’s shirt is much more than a simple PR stunt, and this is a dazzling design with plenty to write home about.
The graphic on the sleeves and body really is quite special, and it’s possibly the best example of how the lack of a sponsor can really help a football shirt. Wales’ answer to the Kaizer Chiefs, perhaps.

85 - Atletico Madrid Third
Nike third kits.
I’ve used these three words in various ways more than I care to imagine this year, but it’s been for good reason. Nike have found a retro-tinged formula so solid that even the relatively understated looks of the set, like this Atleti third kit, have something about them.
Stay tuned for more where this came from…

84 - Marseille Home
Last year Puma and Marseille enjoyed a very happy marriage. That marriage remains strong in 2019, and it all starts with a refreshingly clean home kit. The subtle pinstripes (containing the club name) are well done, and the whole look makes even more sense given the more ambitious away and third kits, one of which you will see later on in this countdown.

83 - AGF Aarhus Home
I love this AGF Aarhus shirt by Hummel and how simple and classy it is. The blue and red pin stripes on the front of the shirt are just right, adding a pop of colour to the predominantly white shirt.
The shirt itself is dedicated to the fans and the city, with an embossed city skyline on the back of the shirt, making the shirt a more bespoke.
All in all, a lovely-looking shirt.

82 - Schalke Third
Inspired by the sea of lights visible from the Veltins Arena's magnificent Nordkurve at any given home match, this third shirt is definitely an eye catcher. A far cry from the reserved design of Schalke's away shirt, Umbro have opted for a brilliant gradient pattern here and it has certainly paid off. A terrific shirt to honour a truly breathtaking stadium.

81 - Venezia Home
It’s not a colour combination I initially thought well of, but wow this Venezia home shirt is special. Nike have used the perfect shades of orange and green to make this shirt look more slick and classy, instead of being too bold and loud. The ‘Venezia’ in place of the sponsor is also great - the font really works with its minimalist approach.
- Apollo
This Venezia home shirt is a great example of how to use the club colours to make a striking yet classy shirt.
The thick, orange and green stripes work superbly against the black background. It may not be a design that pushed the design team to their limits but sometimes the simplest look provides the greatest impact. The specially designed lettering by Nike also looks classy and fits in well with the rest of the shirt.
Overall, Venezia have a shirt that immediately grabs our attention for all the right reasons.

Are you enjoying Top 100 Shirts so far?
One of the things we love to hear is your thoughts on the shirts in this list. Have we sorely underrated a design which should have been a top half contender? Is there a design which shouldn't be in a Top 500 list, let alone Top 100?
Head over to FOOTY.COM’s Twitter and give your argument. I might join the debate whilst I’m at it.
