Best women's football boots 2025

The popularity of the women’s game has skyrocketed in recent years, and I’m absolutely loving it!

The Lionesses are flying high and the Women’s Super League is stronger than it’s ever been. Plus, participation at grassroots level looks extremely promising.

This all means that we as women in football need more suitable pairs of women’s football boots in circulation, and that can only be a good thing for the game.

With manufacturers and brands now making both unisex and women’s designs the norm, experts Enzo, Emily, and I have put these boots through their paces to find you the best available options.

Why Women need their own Boots

Emily playing football in adidas F50 football boots

Well, first of all, why wouldn’t we?! Women’s feet aren’t just smaller versions of men’s—they have different shapes, arches, and biomechanics, which means cramming into men’s boots isn’t always the best idea.

In fact, wearing ill-fitting boots can actually increase the risk of injuries, including the dreaded ACL tear, which is already more common in women due to anatomical differences.

While some women might get by with men’s boots, most are better off with ones designed specifically for them—providing the right fit, comfort, and support to help every player perform at their best (and keep those knees happy!).

How We Tested the Boots

football pitch

We put the boots through their paces with a variety of drills, ensuring a thorough test of both comfort and performance. This included laps around the pitch to assess overall fit and endurance, followed by high-intensity sprints to evaluate responsiveness and traction. We then moved on to shooting drills, checking for striking power and accuracy, before finishing with close-control dribbling exercises to see how the boots handled quick movements and ball control. Each drill gave us insights into how the boots performed under real match conditions.

Nike Phantom Luna II Elite FG

Best Overall

The Nike Phantom Luna 2 may be a unisex design, but we wanted to put that to the test—so both Enzo and I laced up to see how they really performed. Enzo found them to be snug and supportive, with the Cyclone 360 stud pattern helping him pull off quick turns with ease. His only issue? The Gripknit material loves to collect dirt—especially on 4G pitches, where that dreaded black astro colouring clings on for dear life (not ideal if you like your boots looking fresh). Aesthetic issues aside, he gave them a big thumbs-up.

For me, the fit was spot-on, locking my foot in securely without any discomfort. The Gripknit tech is next-level for ball control, and paired with the strike zones, I was pinging unstoppable shots left, right, and centre. Lightweight yet stable, I completely agree with Enzo—the Cyclone 360 soleplate makes those tricky movements feel smoother, keeping you quick and agile on the pitch. Safe to say, the Phantom Luna 2 passes the test with flying colours!

What We Like:

  • GripKnit technology for the best ball control
  • Cyclone 360 soleplate improves flexible movement to reduce injury risk
  • Unisex boot design

adidas F50 Pro FG

Best Budget

Our expert Emily took the adidas F50 for a spin (in a different colourway), and she had nothing but praise. She tested the Elite version, but here’s the inside scoop—the Pro version offers nearly identical tech for almost £100 less.

As a midfielder, she knows the importance of ball control, and these boots delivered. The Sprintweb 3D texturing kept the ball glued to her feet while dribbling, and the soleplate tech made sharp cuts and quick turns feel effortless. Comfort? Top-tier—so much so that she said she’d happily play a full 90 minutes in them. Safe to say, the F50s are a winner for the price that the Pro versions are available.

What We Like:

  • Available laceless (League or Elite edition)
  • Grippy Sprintweb 3D texturing provides great ball control
  • Sprintshell 360 soleplate allows for quick multidirectional movement

Puma Ultra 5 Ultimate FG

Best for Comfort

I put the Puma Women’s Ultra 5 Ultimate to the test, and let’s just say—they’re built for speed, precision, and serious comfort! As someone who’s picky about a comfy fit, these boots impressed me with their lightweight, aerodynamic design and PWRTAPE SQD support frame, which kept my feet secure even during full-throttle sprints.

The GripControl Pro technology gave me extra confidence when dribbling at high speeds, and the FastTrax studs provided the stability I needed for quick cuts and sharp movements. The only downside? There’s no women’s SG version, so if you’re playing on a muddy pitch, you might need to opt for the unisex SG model instead.

What We Like:

  • Designed for women
  • GripControl Pro for ultimate ball control
  • Lightweight

adidas Predator Elite Tongue FG

Best for Strikers

I put the adidas Predator to the test, and as a striker, they’ve quickly become one of my go-to boots. The precision when shooting is seriously next level—thanks to the Strikeskin grip, I could add extra swerve and control to my shots like never before. Personally, I love the laced version with the tongue, as it keeps me feeling secure and locked in for the full 90 minutes. The ControlFrame 2.0 soleplate also impressed me, offering the stability I need for quick sprints and sharp movements.

Enzo gave them a run too and noticed the HybridTouch upper is softer than past Predator models, making for a snugger fit. While he preferred the laced version minus the tongue for his role as a centre-back, even he admitted the tongue design wins in the looks department! Safe to say, the Predator delivers both style and performance.

What We Like:

  • Strikeskin grip for precision and control
  • ControlFrame 2.0 provides stability with multidirectional traction

Puma Womens Future 8 Ultimate FG

Best for Wide Feet

Another women-specific boot? That meant Emily was up again! Her favourite feature of the Puma Future 8 was hands down the FUZIONFIT 3 upper, which moulded perfectly to her foot for a truly personalised fit.

Running through our drills, she found the GripControl Pro finish gave her excellent ball control—even at top speed. The 360 Agility soleplate kept her movements fluid and unrestricted, while the sockliner provided next-level support, making her feel more secure than ever in a football boot. She also loved the option to wear them with or without laces—naturally, she put both to the test. While she ultimately stuck with the laces, she found the laceless option just as capable, proving these boots are all about choice and comfort!

What We Like:

  • Can be worn with or without laces
  • FUZIONSKIN base layer for maximum support
  • Designed for women
  • GripControl Pro for ultimate ball control
