The best 25 kits from Women’s World Cup 2023
25. South Africa Away
The ol’ green and gold has hooked us again. It’s not particularly special this one, but it’s worthy of a place.
Le Coq Sportif can cluck proudly once more, thanks to this classy South African number. Hold the vuvuzelas though, it’s not that good.
24. Italy Home
Not a unique design for WWC2023, but it’s still a smart shirt which will complement Cristiana Girelli’s slick finishing.
The Tricolore running down the hems is a superb addition, sure to stoke the fire that’s already been lit by Italy’s banger of a national anthem.
23. Sweden Away
The first of many incredible adidas WWC2023 releases that have found their way into this list. I’m sure you’re truly shocked. Not.
Themed around the beautiful fjords of the Scandi nation, its blue depths work perfectly in partnership with their trademark yellows.
22. Germany Home
One we’re still loving from the 2022 releases is the monochromatic Germany home. This is simplicity at its best.
The thick middle stripe with central badging is something which is rarely seen, but my goodness, it really makes that gold detailing Popp.
21. China PR Home
On the surface, this shirt doesn’t jump out as a classic. And it’s not, but it’s actually quite interesting when you look a little closer.
China PR is known for its traditions and symbolism, so it’s only fair that a ‘xiangyun’ (a cloud associated with luck and fortune) is the key pattern. Stylish.
20. France Home
OK, we’ll start by saying that this is nowhere near the level of their previous design, which was unquestionably magnifique. Number 1 in our EURO 2022 shirt ranking, in fact.
The ribbed base pattern is much more plain, but the game is upped by the paint-like Tricolore hems. Oui oui, madame.
19. Japan Home
Another flashback to the men’s World Cup (hence why we can’t rank it too highly), this eye-catching Japan home shirt was highly rated in 2022, and it stands the test of time.
Inspired by Japan’s iconic tradition of origami, the design has a subtle white pattern running throughout. Red accents top it off beautifully. Konnichi-wow.
18. Republic of Ireland Home
Breaking through the stacked ranks of adidas and Nike designs, Castore are sprinkling their own retro heritage into the mix.
The Emerald Isle always provides a strong green base on their shirts, but with added gold and white pinstripe detailing and hems, it’s a smart look.
17. Netherlands Away
You’re not going to miss Vivienne Miedema tearing it up in this one. OK, so it’s a bit “off” from the Netherlands’ usual orange. But hey, it looks good to us.
Nike’s ‘ribbed’ style adds a bit of depth to the plainness, with no frills black badging to finish. It’s not quite ‘sexy football’, it’s just simple and stylish.
16. Portugal Away
From the plain to the lively now, this Portugal away shirt transports us directly to the mosaics of sunny Lisbon. Mint green and red splodges have never looked so good.
With its clean white base upper, it’ll combine amazingly well with their mint green shorts and white socks. Confirmed: it’s spicier than an Extra Extra Hot Nando’s.
15. Denmark Home
Ahhh, we can always trust hummel x Denmark to throw us something thought-provoking. Inspired by pop art, the women’s 2023 home shirt certainly does that.
V-collar, chevrons (as standard) and a wacky pop art pattern in white on Danish red. They won’t need to try Harder, it’s already got the nod from us.
14. U.S.A Home
The #1 ranked team in the tournament haven’t quite hit #1 with their home shirt, but it’s a pretty good effort. Splodges are back. And we like them.
A side which has dominated football, they flex their 4 World Cup stars in gold. All the parts work well, much like we’re sure they will when the team takes to the pitch.
13. New Zealand Home
The first glimpse of the joint host nations for you, this black New Zealand home kit is a brilliantly understated design.
They’re facing a slim chance of making it far in this tournament, but they’re going to give it a go in style. That’s thanks to the national emblem, a subtle silver fern running throughout.
12. Argentina Away
Get ready, because a mountain of adidas releases are about to come your way. Apt really, as Argentina’s away shirt is inspired by the Quebrada de Humahuaca mountain range.
Opposing colours for the stripes is risky but it works well and the pattern isn’t overpowering. Great colours too. Could they emulate the men’s team and take the trophy?
11. Netherlands Away
Inspired by the Netherlands’ tin-glazed earthenware (...Google it), another crazy print which has caught our eye is this Nike away.
The navy blue with lighter pattern is offset by a touch of red trim. In our opinion, the badge remains one of the best in world football.
10. Australia Home
The other host nation has entered the conversation. Aussie kits are always fun, thanks to their lively colours and kangaroo and emu-based iconography.
This wavy, swirling marble design hints at the vast Outback and iconic beaches of Australia. It does it in a way which is subtle and contrasts well with the green accents.
9. Germany Away
Adidas are back, this time they’re using the lesser-known German forests as their artistic direction. And we’re happy to turn over to this leaf, any day of the week.
The gold trims bridge over from the brilliant home kit (released for the men’s World Cup), sitting on top of a shirt which Jule Brand will be more than happy to endorse.
8. Brazil Away
Somewhat of a tweak to the men’s away shirt design, the tropical s-leaves are enough to make something which is both unique and attractive.
The colours work well together, with the lively teal setting the tone for the fun footballing style of the Canarinhas. It’s Rio, it’s tropical and it’s great.
7. Spain Away
Dipping its toes into the sun-soaked Costas of Spain, it's another incredible landscape-inspired design from adidas’ WWC2023 closet.
The lilac, the coral, the symmetry. This is a floral masterpiece which will make a strong Spanish side look even better. Go on, Putell-us you don’t love this one?
6. England Away
If you’re going to use a retro shirt for inspiration, then you should damn well choose a good one. England 1990 third? Yeah, that’ll do it.
The Lionesses are looking to do the unthinkable and capture both the Euros and the World Cup at the same time. Well, anything is possible when they’re looking this good.
5. Canada Home
You won’t be shocked that it has maple leaves on it. You will be shocked when they’re blended into a futuristic allover pattern which looks incredible.
Christine Sinclair will rank this high up in her faves list, and that’s something coming from someone who’s played in around 50 different Canada shirts.
4. Colombia Away
Ooo, this is taking us back to the iconic ‘galaxy’ Spurs shirt of 2021/22. And we do love a cosmic effort at FOOTY. Even if it’s actually based on plants which grow in the Caño Cristales river.
Navy and purple swirls mix well with the bright yellow accents of traditional Colombian home shirts. Bogo-ta very much, we’ll take 10 of these, please.
3. Jamaica Home
We just got hit with a truckload of that sweet, spicy Reggae Reggae sauce. Jamaica’s home shirt was designed with love by British-Jamaican designer, Grace Wales Bonner.
As you’d expect, yellow, black and green all feature heavily. Classy pinstripes break up the base colour with hems which top off a well-balanced design. We’ve got One Love for this one.
2. Nigeria Away
Another wacky repeat pattern climbs into our ranking, with this Nigerian print-inspired effort from Nike.
This African nation is known for its bold and joyous style, which is why this shirt works so well. The traditional print dominates the limelight on a plain black base. Very nice.
1. Japan Away
It’s the #1 spot for the shirt which has seen the most chatter, even amongst a flood of excellent adidas releases for WWC 2023. Japan has gone and done it again.
We’ve never seen the sunset at Mt. Fuji, but it must be beautiful if this shirt is anything to go by. The design also nods towards the iconic Japanese cherry blossom tree.
Lilac, pale pinks and a cloud effect all combine to create, well, something special. We can’t wait to see this more on the pitch. 10/10.
So there we have, that’s our thinking. If the action is half as good as the designs, we’re in for a serious treat at Women’s World Cup 2023. Bring it on.
